PARRILLA TOPS 2010 CUSTOMS BROKER BOARD EXAMINATION

by: Omar B Jordan

This year’s Board Examinations for Customs Broker results give the College of Business another reason to celebrate as one of its best students topped the test posting an impressive rating of 89%.  Ma. Rizaida Lucille T. Parrilla, a member of the 2009 graduating class, successfully made it to the highest rank with two other examinees from the Lyceum of the Philippines University, Manila - - yet another feat to support the department’s rallying call of “not just passing but topping the exam.”

Mariz, as she is known to many of her friends, consider topping the examination as the coolest thing that ever happened to her. She said, “This is one of the things I achieved without shortcuts or handouts.” In a written message she sent to the ICT Office, she stressed that she owes the achievement to many people around her. “I cannot say that this achievement is mine alone. I achieved this milestone because I have a lots of people behind my back supporting and pushing me to keep going forward and to make sure I do my best.”

“I want to thank my family, all my mentors in AIMS and in CLAP, and former classmates. I want to thank all the friends I met in CLAP, they made the review a wonderful and colorful journey despite the pressure and stress.”

Mariz described her way to the top as painstaking.  She considered the exam as something that required time and seriousness. “No going out. No malling. No long vacation after graduation.” She said that she needed all her free time to study and to focus on the exams. That paid well for her because she only aimed to be among the top ten but she turned out to top all 1,131 who took the board examinations.

“Above all, pray and believe in Him. During the examination, before and after each test, I go to the chapel to pray. I can only do so much but in the end, if it is His will then anything can happen.”

AIMS Surpasses National Passing Rate

This year’s passing percentage is 42.86% with 21 passers out of the 49 exam takers. This is way higher than the national passing rate which is only 29.71% or 336 passers out of the total 1,131 who took the board examination. This year’s board examination performance is also a bit higher than that of last year where the institute posted a passing rate of 42.%.

This feat of the College of Business is of course merited to the concerted efforts of all the faculty members through the leadership of the College Dean, Mr. Lamberto G. Mindanao.
